Why You Should Be Drinking Lemon Water Every Morning


If you know me well, you know that I LOVE a glass of warm lemon water first thing in the morning. 

Here's why: We go to sleep at night and wake up typically 7-9 hours later. During that 7-9 hour period, our bodies will finish processing what we ate for dinner and then (unless you had a late night bender), your body will go into somewhat of a fasted state. So when you wake up, do you want the first thing you put in your body to be super hot or cold, acidic, or fatty? No. You want to gently coax your digestive system awake, and lemon water is the perfect way to do it.

The benefits of drinking lemon water first thing in the morning are extensive and include: 

  • Vitamin C & antioxidants improve immunity and ability to fight infections

  • Helps to maintain the pH balance in the body

  • Acts as a detoxifying agent

Drinking lemon water in the morning is SO easy and it's a really nice way to ease into your day. Just heat up 8 oz. of water to a warm temperature, squeeze in a half a lemon, and enjoy! I hope this convinces you to give it a try. :)

Make sure that once you drink your lemon water, you swish some water around your mouth and spit it out to protect your tooth enamel from the acidity of the lemon. I like to wait 30 minutes before brushing my teeth to be extra safe.
